Episode 23 – Garrett Boorojian and Peggy Kusinski discuss relationship building in a team environment.
Peggy is a 12–time Emmy Award winner as a sportscaster. Her professional career in the broadcast industry started in 1992, which was a pivotal time as the Internet became available to the public the following year.
As a Chicago based sports journalist, she covered Michael Jordan’s last three NBA championship years (known as the Chicago Bulls’ second three–peat from 1996 to 1998).
During her great journalistic career, Peggy interviewed Super Bowl–winning and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Mike Ditka. She also covered former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler’s (of the Chicago Bears), Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Thomas’ (of the Chicago White Sox) and former NHL center Jonathan Toews’ (of the Chicago Blackhawks) careers. At NBC5 Chicago and post-Michael Jordan era, there was still a lot to cheer about in the “Windy City” as Peggy witnessed the Bears reach the Super Bowl (2005), Blackhawks win three Stanley Cups (2010, 2013 and 2015), and both the White Sox (2005) and the Cubs (2016) win the World Series.
Oprah Winfrey responded to a letter Peggy wrote to her when Peggy was in college. Peggy said: “Oprah was a huge influence.”
Peggy looked up to Oprah and Peggy’s former ESPN colleague, Robin Roberts, as role models who broke barriers as broadcast journalists and icons.
