Episode 5
In Memory of Howie A. Schwab (September 17, 1960 to April 20, 2024).
Garrett Boorojian and Howard Schwab discuss relationship building in a team environment.
Howard, formerly a world-renowned sports trivia expert, was one of Garrett’s mentors at ESPN. Howard worked at ESPN for 26 years and eventually became a Coordinating Producer who led the network’s research department. He and the late, great, SportsCenter Anchor Stuart Scott co–starred in the widely popular ESPN’s “Stump the Schwab” show originally aired in the mid–2000s.
Howard talked to Garrett about his friendships with Stuart, ESPN college basketball broadcaster Dick Vitale, the late ESPN / ABC broadcaster John Saunders who Garrett worked with on the ESPN / ABC College Football Live team in 2011, and the late Jim Valvano, who won the 1983 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship at North Carolina State University as its head coach. The V Foundation for Cancer Research is named after Jimmy who said these memorable words at the first ESPYs in 1993 – “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.”
After ESPN, Howard was a consultant for the “Sports Jeopardy” show hosted by another world-renowned former ESPN SportsCenter Anchor, Dan Patrick.
