Episode 89 – Garrett Boorojian and Blaine Bishop discuss relationship building in a team environment.

Blaine was a 4x Pro–Bowler and 2x All–Pro (1995, Pro Football Writers; 2000, Associated Press).

Note: During my interview with Blaine, I refer to him as a 2x All–Pro. Blaine refers to himself as a 2x All–Pro on his X Account. Technically, Blaine is a 3x All–Pro (but his 1995 and 1996 All–Pros are both a United Press International designation. The UPI designation ceased for NFL players three decades ago).

Blaine is a member of the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame, Indiana Sports Hall of Fame, Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, and Senior Bowl Hall of Fame.

Blaine communicated the following to me (via LinkedIn):

“I’m… a guy who went from a small Division 2 school to playing on the biggest stage in football. After retiring from the NFL, I transitioned into broadcasting and now co–host a daily sports radio show in Nashville.”

Blaine then added:

“… I’d love to join your podcast and share my journey – from being underestimated to becoming one of the most respected players on the field.”

Blaine concluded:

“More importantly, I want to talk about the power of belief, hard work, and how to stay grounded through every transition in life – whether that’s sports, career, or identity… I’d be honored to join you.”

“Bishop earned three letters in football at Ball State from 1989-92 after transferring to BSU from St. Joseph’s (Ind.) College. He sat out the 1989 season as a transfer before lettering in 1990, 1991, and 1992 for the Cardinals. Bishop completed his Ball State career with an appearance in the Blue-Gray All-Star Game and then was selected by the Houston Oilers in the eighth round of the National Football League Draft. Bishop started 10 games as a senior and 28 contests in his three seasons, while appearing in 32 contests. He was an All-Mid-American Conference Second-Team choice in 1992 as a senior and 1990 as a sophomore. One of BSU’s team captains as a senior, Bishop was rated as the 17th-best defensive back in the country by a professional scouting service prior to his senior season. The 5-foot-9 cornerback, tallied 243 total tackles, managed 13 pass breakups, tallied 15 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, one interception, and one blocked kick in his Ball State career. Bishop played 10 seasons in the NFL for the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans, and Philadelphia Eagles. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection, and was named one of the NFL’s Top 100 Players by The Sporting News in 1998.”
